What Is the Big Deal About Easter?

Easter is another one of those holidays that most people celebrate but have no real idea about what it means or why we celebrate it the way that we do.

Is Easter a Christian thing?  Did Jesus really rise from the dead?  And what do bunnies, eggs, and hot cross buns have to do with it?

While there is good evidence to suggest that most of the traditions surrounding the Easter holiday do not come from Christian origins, Easter is a very good time to focus on an extremely important historical event.  In fact, this event is most likely the most important event in history.

What am I talking?  The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

You see, Jesus Christ of Nazareth was a legitimate historical figure that has been referred to not only by the Biblical writers but also by many secular historians as well.  There is actually more evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ than Julius Caesar.

While on the earth, Jesus Christ said many good things that people appreciate such as “Love thy neighbour as thyself” but He also made many statements and did many things that reveal His belief that He was no ordinary man.  For example, Jesus said things like, “I am the light of the world,” “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me”, and “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

Some might have thought Jesus was deceived, crazy, or just lying, but when he was crucified, buried, and came back from the dead according to the testimony of hundreds of eye-witnesses, it turns out that He had to be who He said He was and we must believe on Him to get to God.

That is why Easter celebrates the most significant event in history – the resurrection of Christ.

Jesus was more than a good teacher, a prophet, a legend, or a myth.  He was God come in flesh, validated by His miracles and His fulfilled prophecies, and proved by His resurrection from the dead.

All the remains, now, is for you to believe on Him.  If you do, this Easter could hold so much more meaning than how many Easter eggs you eat.  It could be the beginning of whole new life!
